Shanghai trade fair to promote Australia in 2014
A $1.75 million trade fair will be held in Shanghai next year and will be attended by celebrities, state and territory governments and the private sector to promote Australia.
China is now Australia's most valuable market for inbound tourists with the number of Chinese visiting Australia growing to 625,000 in 2012, an increase of 16% on 2011.
The Australian Government is hoping to build closer business ties by finalising a deal to allow the Australian dollar to be directly traded with the Chinese Renminbi on China’s foreign exchange markets.
It is only the fifth time such a deal has been struck for trading on mainland China and the Government expects it to reduce the cost over time for companies doing business in China, because they will no longer have to complete transactions through a third currency.
The talks also revealed there is still no end point in sight for the free trade negotiations which were started eight years ago.
I think the Shanghai trade fair is a great idea and I believe it will be positive in the way of trade and tourism for Australia...
