The Gold Coast Health and Knowledge 200-hectare Precinct is an emerging collaborative environment for mixed-use health, knowledge and commercial activities and provides a dynamic location for a diverse range of businesses to cluster and grow.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning, Jackie Trad unveiled the future plans for the Precinct which will see the site transformed into an innovative residential, commercial and knowledge hub following GC2018.

“The Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct (GCHKP) is fast becoming one of the Gold Coast’s most vibrant communities, already benefiting from more than $5 billion in infrastructure,” Ms Trad says.

“This master plan will bring together and activate the full potential of the Precinct’s infrastructure and the legacy benefits of the GC2018 Village to create a world-renowned, integrated urban community, offering a mix of residential, recreational and commercial facilities, and open space,” she says.

Investment to date

Griffith University $550 million

Gold Coast University Hospital $1.76 billion

Gold Coast Private Hospital $230 million

Commonwealth Games Athletes Village $550 million

Light Rail Stage One $1.6 billion

Light Rail Stage Two $500 million

Already home to world-class organisations including the Gold Coast University Hospital, Griffith University and the Gold Coast Private Hospital, the Precinct offers world-class medical services with talented clinicians working in partnership with universities, business and industry an environment to drive health, medical and technological innovation.

“While the Precinct already boasts some of Queensland’s best research and medical facilities, the master plan will further transform this 200-hectare site into an integrated and collaborative hub for learning, research, knowledge creation and investment, and will help facilitate the commercialisation of newly developed technology,” Ms Trad says.

The Precinct is also driving the redevelopment of Parklands – including the $550 million Commonwealth Games Village, which, after the Games, will transform into a permanent mixed-use residential community with over 1200 dwellings.

Adjacent to this new community will be nine hectares of land earmarked for investment by local, national and international organisations.

There is no shortage of research to demonstrate the innovation and scientific advances taking place within the Precinct, from new sources of renewable energy to a cell culture platform for bio printing and implants, and minimally invasive endovascular treatments for life threatening brain surgeries.

With significant opportunities to truly integrate and leverage existing areas of expertise, the GCHKP is well positioned to attract globally significant businesses across health and medical, advanced design and manufacturing, technology, sport and ancillary and supporting facilities.

All levels of government, education, health and research organisations, industry and the private sector are working together to deliver a world-class hub of knowledge, innovation, employment and investment.

There are already over 9000 jobs within the Precinct.  It is estimated that once fully developed the Precinct will support more 20,000 jobs, stimulating our health and knowledge industries.
